Recently, a makeup artist from Kandivali (East), Mumbai, fell victim to cybercrime when a crook posing as a wine shop employee tricked her into sending her money from her bank account.
According to the report published by Indian Express, the 45-year-old plaintiff was trying to buy a bottle of wine for Rs 1,500 over the phone, but was tricked into sending Rs 69,700.
According to reports, on October 26, an FIR was registered at Samta Nagar Police Station, where the victim revealed that she was looking for a bottle of wine online as a birthday present for her sister. She got the number for the wine store from Google.
Initially, the fraudster asked the makeup artist to send Rs 1,500 as a deposit. After that he asked for more as a processing fee and cited some technical issues.
When the victim requested a refund, he sent her a link and said that she would get a refund by clicking on it. The link brought her to a portal where she lost more money.
