About Veuve du Vernay

Veuve du Vernay is the leading French brand of sparkling wines under $ 20 in the United States, channeling the classic Parisian lifestyle and joy of living. It was founded in the 1960s by Robert Charmat, the son of scientist Eugène Charmat who patented the Charmat Method for the production of sparkling wines. Robert Charmat has used this method of trapping carbonation from secondary fermentation to make his own sparkling wines full of fresh aromas and flavors. Robert named his wines for a widow in Vernay who helped her father during his early days of winemaking. Widow in French means widow. Veuve du Vernay is produced by Patriarche. Founded in 1780 in Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy, Patriarche is one of the main wine producers in France with two areas of activity: Burgundy appellation wines and fine sparkling wines.
